A very festive way to decorate the outside of buildings during Independence day is with some patriotic flag-colored bunting. We'll show you how you can make some for your doll town!
You will need:
Needles and Pins
Red, White and Blue fabric
The Patterns (download from the link above)
Start out with all of the patterns that say "WHITE" on them. Put these on the white fabric and pin in place before you cut them out. Don't forget to place the side that says "FOLD" next to the folded side of the fabric, so that the pattern piece will be twice as big once you cut it out!
Cut out the RED pattern out of the red fabric, also placing the "FOLD" end over the folded part of the fabric.
Cut out the BLUE pattern out of the blue fabric in the same manner, lining up the FOLD with the folded part of the fabric.
Now you should have all of the patterns cut out. They will all look something like this! Now take out the pins and put the pattern pieces away.
First, we're going to sew the smallest white piece to the top of the red piece. Turn it inside out and pin the two sides.
Keep pinning until the whole thing is pinned.
Sew the pieces together along the parts that you pinned. This is what it should look like from the front when you are done.
Next, sew on the bigger white curve, then the blue curve onto that.
When it is finished, pin on the straight white pattern to the flat part of the bunting, good side facing in.
Once the top part is sewn on, take out your pins and do a long hem line all the way around the bunting, from the top of the white to the bottom of the blue curve. Pin and sew.
When all the sewing is done, the finished bunting should look like this.
The buntings can be pinned to walls or windows to help spruce them up and look festive. Cristal has them hung in each of her windows downtown so passersby will know how patriotic and decorated she is.
You're done! Good job!
