April 4th, 2014 -new!
Oh my dear, it has been such a dreadfully long time since I last wrote to you! Please accept my deepest apologies. How is business at the Clothes Boutique? Any hints as to the Summer fashions? Megan just brought me a very cheerful cup of hot coco to sip while I battle the large stack of neglected letters in front of me. Sunshine is sleeping away on a nearby cushion. Is there any news in town?

Oh my, and now I have also lost your letter in return! I found this letter just today in my lunch box from Proper School! I do hope you'll accept my apologies!!
I am enjoying tea at the Clothes Boutique on this thundery, rainy Tuesday morning. There is a brand new golden velvet dress and hat in the window display today, as Cristal just finished it last night. It is the first of the Fall fashions that she has finished. Do come and visit some time!
Sincerely, Sonja Romanakov

My Dear Sonja,
I am so dreadfully grieved to say that I found your lost letter in my very own mailbox only a day after our discussion on the subject. How sorry I am, my dear! Indeed, you must believe me. I have not yet read it myself, but I have heard from Samantha who just returned from making the postal rounds, that there is a new release of the long-awaited Pleasantville Lady! Have you read it? What are your thoughts? As to your question, I am not sure when Proper School will begin. I do so hope that it will be soon!
With fond regards, Teresa Irene Berg

Well, I suppose that it is really as I feared and your or my letter was lost in the shuffle somehow. I have checked all over the shop; under the desk, in the fabric shelves, in Tootsie's basket, amongst the magazines and even in the mailbox! But to no avail - I have found nothing that remains to carry on our correspondence. So we must begin anew.
Town square is thawing a little, but most of the shops are still closed for Christmas because Lisa, Laura and Alexandra Chen have decided to go skiing. Ah well. I see the Post Office is open. When does Proper School begin?
November 18th, 2011
I am writing to you in the greatest of anticipation - this morning at breakfast (at Suzanne's house) Cristal announced that she was going to Lincolnville for the day and she would not say why. But as she drove me to the dress shop in her motorcar, I became sure that the only reason she would be driving to Lincolnville and back would be to come home with the latest fashions! Isn't that just wonderful? I am so very excited, I can hardly sit still in the shop and wait for her to get back. So I am writing to you and Rachel both!
There is also a Proper School lesson today, which I am also looking forward to, but not as much as the fashions. What part do you hope to get in the nativity play this year? I am hoping to be the angel, as I think Miss Cristal would make me a truly divine costume, should I get the part. I think Rachel should still be Mary though, she looks more the part. 'Twill be fun to see who is who! See you at school today!

Why yes, I assure you that as certain as the fact that Cristal is rich, Clara and Nancy WERE gambling at the Grumpy Troll. I saw it with my own little eyes!
I am enjoying Spring as well, but aside from our jaunt as a class to pick flowers and make our Spring wildflower wreaths last week I have not had time to go out into nature much. Have you?
I have been prodding Cristal into getting the latest fashion news out as soon as possible - we should be seeing it soon! I am so excited!
What recitation are you doing? I am doing "Good and Bad Children."
March 23rd, 2011
My Dear Sonja,
Clara and Nancy gambling? Really?? Well I must say, I am shocked! We are in the midst of changing seasons at my house, and I am surrounded with boxes of flowers and bonnets. Proper School is tomorrow, and I am dearly looking forward to it! Are you enjoying the Spring weather? Pray, what is the latest news in town?
January 20th, 2011
My Dear Teresa,
Well, thank you very much for your most recent letter. My holidays were lovely and I received several new dresses and some very cute lace gloves. Right now Clara and Nancy are doing something in the Grumpy Troll and I am very disturbed because it is my belief that they are GAMBLING! It certainly is disgraceful. I can't wait until Proper School begins again!

My Dear Teresa,
Yes, I am now the manager of Cristal's Clothes Boutique in Town Square! I do regular business with all the most fashionable ladies in town square, which, I must say, fits me very well.
My jobs are to sell and stock the latest fabric shipments, set up the displays, decorate for the holidays, and set up appointments for the ladies to see Cristal.
And I am right at the center of the hustle and bustle of Town Square, which is such fun!

My dear Sonja,
How are you? Your adventure to Holland sounds like it went very well, and I'm very happy for you. I heard you are now working at Cristal's fashion store! How do you like it? We just finished decorating the house for fall! I always love opening up a box of decorations that you haven't seen for a year, it always seems like they are brand new! You must come over some time and see them for yourself.

My dear Teresa,
The thunder storm in town has now quite died out, even though an hour ago the clamor it created was such that I once or twice felt like running to hide!
Suzanne is having a dinner party tonight, since it is a Saturday, and I am so glad to change into a nice dress after wearing my ballgown for so long!
Nan and Felicity are trying to run the General Store together, and they are doing nothing but argue with each other. How are you, dear? What are your observations?
May 25th, 2008
Have you been to the new restaurant in town square? I am going tonight! What fun! What shall you dress as for the Masked Ball? My music room is still being wallpapered unfortunately, so I cannot practice on my grand piano. Do you ever plan on learning the piano, Sonja?
Sincerely, Teresa Berg

My dear little Teresa,
Goodness, hasn’t time just flown by since Mrs. Wickon’s amazing ball in October. And you and I have gained such privileges since then! Imagine being real members of the sewing circle already, what fun! Although I haven’t had much time to sew myself much of anything during the last two meetings. But I do hope to start making a nice dress for myself sometime soon. Write back!

My Dear Darling Sonja,
Who do you plan to be at Suzanne’s ball? I still must have a longer time of thought before I decide. Isn’t it just wonderful that Rachel may come? I am quite delighted! Have you had your tea party yet? My date of birth is November 1st, and my favorite food is very hard to decide. I believe that anything that Mrs. Hawkins makes is my favorite food. She is a divine chef! Do you like to attend operas? I find it most entertainable. Suzanne has the most beautiful voice, don’t you agree? The sewing circle that I attended was lovely and I do hope that you will be able to attend the next one.
Fond regards, Teresa Berg

My dear darling Teresa,
Oh my! Art lessons do sound so divine- I hope that he is a good teacher and all that. Maybe one day you will become a famous paintress and have exhibits all over the world. How glamorous!
Yes, I am going to take singing lessons from Suzanne as well, she is a dear friend of mine. Well, even though you may not think about growing up just yet, I think about it quite often. I need to become a fine lady- refined and accomplished. I also need to be a hair stylist, opera star, and accomplished Italian chef. I am working on achieving these ambitions as we speak!
What is your favorite thing to eat? When is your birthday? Mine is November 2nd.
August 18th, 2006
My darling Sonja,
My! What a long time since we last corresponded! Thank you! Yes we certainly have a good gardener. I am very excited for today because Samantha said that we might be having an art instructor from New York come and teach us! My life is full of fun and enjoyment right now. And what is the news with you? Who do you take singing lessons from? I take mine from Suzanne Wickon, she is a delightful instructor. I do not know what I want to be when I grow up, and I think I am not going to think about growing up for a while.
August 6th, 2006
My Darling Teresa,
I see that congratulations are in order for your gardener, since he has won the contest! I heard that it was a very close result, but fair. I have not seen you for such a long time, but I do miss our chats! How is your life coming along? I am happy and busy shopping and taking lessons in fine cuisine, singing, and hair dressing. What do you want to be when you grow up?
March 17th, 2006
If you will excuse me, I really do not think that Rachel has turned into a pauper. She just turned into a very kind and very fashionable lady. Why I am sure that every lady would know that not wearing your ballgown every day and cooking is very fashionable! Why don’t you cook? I don’t think that it is kind to talk behind another’s back. I hope that you are well.
February 18th, 2006
My Dear Little Teresa,
What a coincidence that I should decide to write back to you today! I am at Cristal’s house getting my hair done for the Valentines party that you are putting on this evening. I am so excited about it. I have been very well, spending much of my time learning how to be a fashionable young lady from my darling friends Cristal and Suzanne.
How have you been keeping? What do you do all day? Has Elizabeth been getting into mischief? Did you know that little Rachel has forsaken her fashionable life and become a pauper? She has sold all of her fashionable clothes back to the dress shop! How shocking!
P.S. I must apologize for the ugliness of this envelope. I’m afraid Laura Windmill has begun selling ugly merchandise!!
September 15th, 2005
Why don’t you come to my house sometime and we can have a little playdate? Have you gotten your fashionable dress yet? I have. Mine is blue and pink! It is so beautiful! Nancy is so sweet. I just read her letter and it was absolutely hilarious! Hehe! J We just got a pink shower installed and it looks lovely. Elizabeth is still the same, as always- spying, doing mischief and stealing tarts from the kitchen. Well tata darling!

My Dearest Teresa,
Of course I am going to compete in the horse-riding competition if there ever is one. Besides being top of my classes in school, and the most proper girl of my age in town, I am also a very accomplished in adventurous yet lady-like sports. What do you do?
It is raining right now and Britta is singing downstairs. I wish she would learn how to sing in tune, it’s horrible for my poor, delicate ears. Angelica listens to the most awful music! I had to put up with that this weekend as well.
July 18th, 2005
My Dear Sonja,
I just had tea, it was delicious! We had rainbow ice cream from Clara’s sweet shop. Do you have ice cream at tea? How is Britta and the rest, and how are you? This afternoon Samantha, Rebecca and I went out to the garden and sketched and drew and wrote back to letters. Samantha made a lovely painting of a vase of blue and yellow flowers. Are you going to compete in the horse competition? Well, I must get my beauty sleep. Goodnight!
