Rebecca prays fervently that her family will have good health and that she will be able to see Rachel later while she does the dishes.
She also wishes (as she does every day) that someday she could be as beautiful as Francisca.
(wash in the river)
Rebecca swims about happily near the bridge and washes her frizzy hair, trying to get it to lay flat. It's no use though, washing just makes it even more huge and bushy.
It is very hot and miserable, but that is the price you have to pay for beauty, Francisca says.
Rebecca is really excited about her current weaving, since she gets to use the big loom while Josefina is working on her woven napkins for her hope chest.
She wants the weaving to look like a hot desert with a stream of blue and green running through the middle. She finished the stream, now she has to mirror-image the first part of the weaving over again.
(weed the garden)
Rebecca loves plants, so she naturally hates weeds. She goes about this chore with a natural ferocity, ripping out the weeds and sometimes throwing them as far as the riverbank in her anger.
Rebecca is in charge of feeding her beloved llama, Kuzko. He is a very picky eater and she is the only one that knows the secret recipe for llama feed that he will actually eat.
Papa has been wondering where all the expensive market food they buy has been going, and no one knows that Rebecca has been taking it to feed to llama.
(write back to letters)
Rebecca likes writing back to letters, but for some reason she is always running out of paper.
Clara says it's because she writes way too big, but Rebecca doesn't think so. Still, it's a mystery.
(Iron the laundry)
Whenever the Montoyas do the laundry, Rebecca is in charge of the ironing. Every day she irons piles and piles of clothes, to make sure that all the creases and folds go away and the clothes return in tip-top shape.
She likes to feel the different fabrics of the fancier dresses though, and imagine what she would look like in them if she was beautiful.
(do the dishes with Clara)
Clara and Rebecca help each other out with the dishes everyday so they can get the mountains of them done faster.
Rebecca looks hopefully over at the bridge to see if Rachel is going to join them today on the other side of the river with her own dishes, but she doesn't come.
"Oh well, there's always tomorrow," Rebecca sighs, sadly.
(Pick pumpkins, limes, onions and the bell peppers)
Rebecca enjoys working in the garden, so she likes doing this chore. Sometimes she takes llama along so she has someone to talk to.
However, she makes sure to keep him on the other side of the fence, because llamas like gardens too. They like to eat gardens.
(pick flowers for the table)
Because Rebecca likes plants so much, Mama and Papa gave her all the gardening chores.
Rebecca likes picking beautiful bouquets of flowers for the table, because it is the chore she does to make Mama happy.
